KAIKOURA, FROM LONDON.

The New Zealand Shipping Co's steamer Kaikoura, from London via Plymouth, Teneriffe, Capetown, and Hobart, dropped anchor in the stream shortly before we went to press on Saturday afternoon. Dr James, Health Officer, boarded the vessel for his usual inspection, which was satisfactory, and at 5.30 pm she was safely moored at the Queen's Wharf for the discharge of passengers, mails, and cargo. Owing to a strong gale she did not leave Plymouth until 4.45 pm on 12th February. A violent south-westerly gale with high sea was encountered for the first three days, when both wind and weather moderated. The steamer arrived at Teneriffe at 5 pm on 18th February, where a quantity of bunker coal was shipped, and she left the next day at 10 am, experiencing moderate to light north-east trades, with smooth seas and moderate to fresh south-easterly trades, with fair weather generally, until arrival at Capetown at 6.30 am on 7th March. The voyage was resumed at 3 pm the same day, with fresh to strong westerly winds, with moderate sea. Fair weather generally was experienced until arrival at Hobart at 4 pm on 27th March. Fine weather was experienced across the Tasman Sea and until arrival in Wellington harbour. The usual concerts were indulged in throughout the voyage, which was quite uneventful.
